GI-MAP Testing
(Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus)
You've done the elimination diets. You've cut gluten, then dairy, then sugar. You still feel bloated after meals, tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, and no one seems able to tell you why. If your bloodwork keeps coming back "normal" while your body tells a different story, the answer may be happening below the surface — in your gut microbiome.
That's what GI-MAP testing is built to find.
Who Would Benefit From GI-MAP Testing?
GI-MAP testing tends to be most useful for women who recognize themselves in more than one of these experiences:
Persistent bloating, gas, or digestive discomfort that hasn't resolved with diet changes alone
Fatigue or "wired but tired" energy that doesn't improve with rest
A history of antibiotic use, food poisoning, or travel-related illness followed by digestive changes that never fully went away
Skin issues (like acne, eczema, rosacea, persistent skin irritation) that haven't responded to topical treatment
Mood and energy shifts that seem tied to what and when you eat
A general sense that something is "off" internally, despite normal standard bloodwork
An interest in getting real data before starting another round of supplements or elimination diets
What Is GI-MAP Testing?
GI-MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) is a comprehensive stool test that uses DNA-based technology to map what's actually living in your gut — bacteria, parasites, yeast, and other organisms — along with markers of digestion, inflammation, and gut barrier function.
Unlike a standard stool culture, GI-MAP uses quantitative PCR technology, which measures the DNA of organisms directly. That means it can pick up on imbalances and pathogens that older culture-based testing often misses entirely.
For women who've been told their labs are "normal" despite very real symptoms, this is often the first test that gives a fuller picture — not just whether something is present, but how much of it, and what your gut environment looks like as a whole.
How Is GI-MAP Testing Performed?
GI-MAP testing is done at home, on your own schedule — no fasting, no clinic visit, no invasive procedure.
Here's what the process looks like when you work with us at Fig & Field Wellness:
Initial consult. We talk through your symptom history, health goals, and whether GI-MAP is the right starting point for you (sometimes it's not the first test we'd reach for — more on that below).
Kit delivery. Your test kit is shipped directly to your door with clear collection instructions.
At-home collection. You collect a single stool sample in the privacy of your own bathroom, following the included instructions.
Lab processing. The sample is mailed to the lab, where DNA-based PCR analysis identifies and quantifies what's present in your gut microbiome.
Results review. Once results are in (typically within 2–3 weeks), we schedule a dedicated session to walk through your report together — not just what it says, but what it means for your specific symptoms and history.
Personalized protocol. From there, we build a supplement and lifestyle protocol tailored to your results, with follow-up support as you move through it.
